MEN'S LOAFERS AT WALK LONDON

Men's loafers are rooted in history and culture. The term 'loafer' was first used in the 1930s to describe a casual slip-on shoe worn by men. The footwear of Norwegian farmers and the moccasins of the Native Americans both help to inspire original loafer designs.

However, the Ivy League era of the 1950s and '60s propelled men's loafers into popular culture. When seeking a more casual dress code, Ivy League students paired loafers with jeans, Oxford shirts, or sportswear for a pared-back look. 

The Penny Loafer was a popular choice among college students, the name was coined as these students utilised the small slit on the top of the shoes to store a coin to use at a payphone when they needed to make a call. By the 1970s, the loafer had become synonymous with preppy style.
